The Weary Blues

Welcome to The Weary Blues, a digital journal of poetry, short fiction, art and photography.

The Weary Blues is published in digital form every few months. The journal is released for free to e-mail subscribers, while it is also made available here for download.

The Weary Blues welcomes submissions from both emerging and established artists.

The journal is named in honour of the work of Harlem Renaissance poet, Langston Hughes.

What's the idea?

The increased commercialisation of culture has developed a number of barriers to publication. Emerging authors and artists, particularly in those less popular fields represented in The Weary Blues, can find it extremely difficult to see their work in print. Publishers simply cannot afford to produce literature and art that will not sell.

Electronic editions do not suffer as greatly from production and distribution overheads as their printed counterparts. As a result, journals offered in digital format offer a means through which new and established writers alike can achieve a greater volume of publications, and in turn, reach a wider audience.

While there is a certain element of subjectivity involved in any creative piece, The Weary Blues strives to include only the highest standard of art and literacy in each of its editions, supported by its team of qualified editors and ties to respected critics and academics.
